Every year on Valentine’s Day, Life Care Center of North Glendale, Arizona, holds a coronation for the King and Queen of Hearts.
Residents, family members and associates are all encouraged to nominate a resident of their choice. Then at the annual Valentine’s party, all the nominees are invited to receive special recognition at the coronation. Associates tally the votes and announce the winners. The Queen receives a tiara, velvet sash and a dozen roses, while the King receives a crown, velvet sash and roses.
The 2018 King and Queen of Hearts are Raymond Garcia, who has lived at the facility for more than eight months, and Sandra Webb, who has lived there for more than a year.
“Both King and Queen were ecstatic and emotional at their crowning,” said Andrea Perkins, executive director.
“Wow! I can’t believe I won,” said Garcia. “I’ve never won anything like this before!”
